Armod (Armodafinil) is used to enhance vigilance and to reverse daytime sleepiness in patients affected by narcolepsy, sleep apnoea and shift work sleep disorder. Its mechanism of action involves working on the central nervous system to stimulate the brain and help improve feelings of wakefulness. Medical researchers have theorized that this medicine may work on the CNS (central nervous system) and potentiate what are referred to as glutaminergic synapses in the brain.
It also affects the monoaminerigc and GABA systems, as well as functioning as a dopamine reuptake inhibitor. This is believed to mediate the wakefulness effect that it produces. Excessive sleepiness is a chronic condition which affects the patient’s ability to stay alert during the day, often interfering with work and mental health. Treatment with this medicine can help to alleviate these symptoms in affected patients.
Recently, some people have taken it as a nootropic, to improve memory and help them study better. Other medical studies have also researched its potential use for other conditions, including ADHD, fibromyalgia, depression, chronic fatigue syndrome, improving cognition in patients with multiple sclerosis and other conditions not listed here.
